Anita Lynn Skelton, 70, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Manhattan, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Corridor Crossing Place, Cedar Rapids. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her sisters, Deborah Skelton of Hiawatha, Iowa, and Mary Skelton of Bronx, N.Y.; and her loving nephews, Daniel (Mirna) Pacheco of Coralville, Iowa, Theodore Brown of Bronx, N.Y., and Brandon Santana of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Anita was born on Aug. 15, 1952, in Postville, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Helen (Gerner) Skelton. She graduated in 1970 from Valley High School in Elgin, Iowa, and then in 1974 from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in teaching English as a foreign language. She taught in Japan from 1974-79, before moving to New York. Later Anita earned her master's in business administration from Barach College in 1991, and became a certified public accountant in 1995. She worked at AT&T then as a budget analyst for the City of New York, N.Y.
Anita enjoyed international travel, especially to London, Paris and China, attending Broadway shows in New York, all things Mickey Mouse and watching the NFL draft. She was a big fan of the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Mets, and was a member of the Linn County Blues Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Helen Skelton.
