Anita was born on January 19, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Louis and Lillian (Donda) Merrifield. She graduated from Wilson High School and Cedar Rapids Business College. On October 4, 1952, she was united in marriage to John “Jack” Peet at Kenwood Park Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Before meeting Jack, she worked as an office assistant at International Harvester. Anita later worked at BJ Industrial Forklift from 1975-1977 as parts/office manager.
Anita was a loving wife, mother, a devoted grandmother, dynamic shopper, and expert seamstress. Early in her married life she sewed and cooked so much to help ends meet. She also painted intricate custom shirts for her family.
Anita loved pasta, bread, and lemon meringue pie. With her love of recipes, she desired to write her own cookbook and have it published. She extremely enjoyed writing and receiving correspondence in the mail.
Anita enjoyed watching Westerns on the GRIT channel, The Lawrence Welk Show, and Antiques Roadshow.
Anita’s love for music started in childhood, when she learned to play the accordion. Anita marveled at her husband Jack's talents on the accordion as a professional musician. They greatly enjoyed attending a variety of musical events, sharing their mutual love of music, with many wonderful friends.
