Angela G. Bagge, 84, of Independence, died Friday morning, Jan. 8, 2016, at her home at Prairie Hills Assisted Care Center in
Independence.
Angie was born Nov. 27, 1931, in West Union, Iowa,
the daughter of Arthur C. and Eva M. (Maller) Schmelzer. She was a 1949 graduate of West Union High School in West Union. On Oct. 3, 1951, she was married to Ervin C. Bagge in West Union and the couple farmed in the
Independence area.
She was an active member of St. John's Catholic Church, St. John's Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters of America, VFW Auxiliary and Birthright.
She is survived by seven children, Mary (Darcy) Andres, Cedar Rapids, Theresa (Mike) Ida, Highland Ranch, Colo., Judee Alexander, Independence, John (Michelle) Bagge, Independence, Charles (Donna) Bagge, Cedar Rapids, Thomas (Cindy) Bagge, Monticello, and Lynn (Terry) Ann Etten, Independence; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Schmelzer and Dorothy Novak, and a brother, Alfred Schmelzer, all of Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ervin, on Jan. 19, 1975; three sisters, Sister Gertrude Schmelzer, Sister Christian Schmelzer and Theresa Kuhn; and five brothers, John, Ray, Joe, Maurice and Edmond Schmelzer.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence, with the Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Inurnment will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, where a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and
parish vigil service held at 7 p.m.
