Donald Earl Andrews was born April 6, 1919, on a farm near Winthrop, Iowa, the son of Earl and Maude Foreman Andrews. He attended the Winthrop Schools. Donald was united in marriage to Delena Mae Mills on Sept. 29, 1940, at the Mills family home near Brandon, Iowa. To this union were born two boys, Donald and Ronald. After marriage they lived at a farm near Independence and then lived at Brandon and Walker until 1949 when they bought the farm east of Winthrop. They lived east of Winthrop until ill health caused them to move to Hiawatha, Iowa.
Don was a member of the Church of Christ United in Winthrop, was superintendent of the Sunday school for many years, former member of the Full Gospel Men's Fellowship and Odd Fellows.
Donald entered into his eternal rest on Monday, March 26, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, following a lengthy illness at the age of 92.
The family wants to thank the staff at Hiawatha Care Center and Dr. Mary Anne Nelson for the wonderful care they gave to Delena and Don.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delena; three brothers, Orlan, Marvin and Leslie; three sisters, Elsie, Erma and Hazel; one other infant sibling; and his parents.
Survivors include his two sons, Donald D. (Barb) Andrews of Marion and Ronald (Cheryl) Andrews of Marion; four grandchildren, Deanna (Bruce) Wilson, Jeff (Tamara) Andrews, Donna Andrews and Lori (Marc) Morris; four stepgrandchildren, Deb (Dan) Bahr, Jim (Janette) Bevins, Mike Bevins and Lynn Bevins; eight great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Wilson, Allison Wilson, Seth Andrews, Kasey Andrews, Rachel Andrews, Eric Morris, Kenyon Morris and Caroline Morris; seven stepgreat-grandchildren, Janean, Jessica, Bill, Jesse, Dehrik, Dylan and McKenna; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 30, at the Church of Christ United in Winthrop with Pastor Dean Schlitter officiating. Music will be provided by Anita and Don Bowden. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery at Winthrop.
A memorial fund has been established for the church building fund and other charities.
The Fawcett Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winthrop is assisting the family with arrangements. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Funeral Home in Winthrop, and after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
