Andrew “Jake” Michael Brecht, 56, of Ankeny, IA passed away September 10, 2024, at EveryStep Kavanagh House, Des Moines, IA following a courageous battle with cancer.
Andy was born May 18, 1968, to Dennis and Yvonne (Schulte) Brecht in Ames, IA.
He grew up on a farm near Watkins, IA, and graduated from Norway High School, class of 1986. Andy worked in automotive service for 38 years starting in Omaha, NE. He worked his way up and became a service advisor for several auto dealerships. Andy most recently worked for Thermo King.
On June 13, 1992, Andy married Gail Vanderpool. They were blessed with two children before going their separate ways.
If Andy wasn’t hunting, he was helping develop the next generation of baseball players. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhuskers fan and proud owner of his 1977 Monte Carlo.
Andy was clever, fun-loving and enjoyed coming home to his cat, Mattie. With a strong Christian faith and kind heart, he was always looking to help others.
He is survived by his parents; son, Zachary (Hannah Tufano); daughter, Zoey (Chris Wilson); grandson, Lincoln Wilson; brothers, Aaron (Kelcy) Brecht, Adam (Emilie) Brecht; nephews, Brody (Tayla Ayers), Brayden; nieces, Mia, Adyson; significant other, Laureen Trent; and numerous family and friends.
Andy is preceded in death by his grandparents, Herb and Violet Schulte, Bernard and Marian Brecht; and cousin, Angie Langenberg.
A visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2024, at St. Michael’s Parish Hall, Norway, IA. A private family graveside service will take place at St. Patrick’s and St. Paul’s Cemetery, Watkins, IA.
A reflection party will take place at a later date.
