He is survived by his father, Michael George of Cedar Rapids; and brothers, Bret (Michelle) George, children Mikyla and Avery of Missoula, Mont.; and Chris George, children Caleb and Tessa of Cedar Rapids. Andrew had a large extended family that includes his birth father, Mike Murphy (Wendy) of Hannibal, Mo.; and siblings, Christy (Murphy) Sparks of St. Louis, Mo., Michael (Ann) Murphy Jr. of Monroe, N.C., Jennifer (Tony) Murphy-Mravle of Shorewood, Ill., and Ben (Erin) Murphy of St. Louis, Mo.; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his grandmother, Edna Neville of Toledo; his stepparent, Ron Newmire of Cedar Rapids, as well as many loving extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy (Neville) Newmire; and grandparents, Bahea and Shady George, Vanetta and Clem Braye and William Neville.
Andrew Michael George was born on Sept. 23, 1969, in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School. Andrew furthered his education by attending Western State Colorado University. He served honorably as a search and rescue swimmer and helicopter mechanic in the U.S. Navy for seven years. Andrew enjoyed his time in the Navy and greatly enjoyed traveling the world during his service to his country. He was the owner of Third Eye Solutions, providing technical consulting and surveillance equipment installation. He also was working with linq3 as an ATM solutions specialist and the Missouri Lottery. Andrew was affiliated with the St. George Orthodox Christian Church, Cedar Rapids, and honored to be an associate member of the St. Charles County Marine Corps League in St. Louis.
Andrew loved spending time with friends and family. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed canoeing, hiking, cross country skiing and any time spent in the mountains. He was especially proud of reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. He liked listening to music, playing video games, performing stand-up comedy, enjoying a quality beer, trying different ethnic foods, experimenting in the kitchen to create dishes, which he then would describe in great detail to all who would listen, and finding a buried treasure at thrift stores. Andrew will always be remembered for his joy for life, ability to dream big and finding the positives in whatever he was facing. He was a free spirit who loved to explore without a plan. He was always thinking of others and would go out of his way to help people. He was a cherished and beloved friend to many. He will be forever in our hearts and sorely missed. Good Paddle!
