Andrew Joseph Armbruster, 69, of Iowa City, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City,
with Father Steven Witt and Father Mark Osterhaus officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time.
Andrew was born Aug. 13, 1946, in Iowa City, the son of Francis and Eileen (Strabala) Armbruster. He grew up in the Riverside area and graduated from Highland High School in 1964. From 1964 to 1967, Andrew honorably served in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he returned to Iowa. On Aug. 23, 1980, Andrew married Sandra Schwickerath in North Washington, Iowa.
Andrew was a passionate bicyclist, liked to read, and enjoyed all of the music venues in Iowa City, especially jazz. He was an outdoor enthusiast and cared for the environment. Andrew loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra of Iowa City; daughter, Gina of Chicago; son, Nicholas of Richton Park, Ill.; grandchildren, Alexis and Nicholas; mother, Eileen of Iowa City; two sisters, Jane Armbruster (Malcolm) of Oakland, Calif., and Catherine (Warren) Grout of Forrest, Va.; two brothers, Richard of Austin, Texas, and Timothy of Iowa City; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Andrew was preceded in death by his father; niece, Kara Grout; father and mother-in-law, Reynold and Corinne Schwickerath; and brother-in-law, Daniel Schwickerath.
