Anderson, Sue Wyrick
Sue Wyrick Anderson, 71, passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side on April 2, 2010, after an inspiring 10-year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, at Unity Center of Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Brenda Ehret will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Mount Zion Cemetery, Miller County, Mo. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Sue is survived by her husband, Bill; son, Michael (Felicia) of Cedar Rapids; stepdaughter, Denice (Robert) Krish of Woodbury, Minn.; sister, Lois of Stilwell, Kan.; grandsons, Alex and Connor Wyrick, Iowa City; grandchildren, Allison and Andrew Krish; nephew, David (Wendy) Webb, Stilwell, Kan.; and a long list of cherished friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Jack; and brother, Lee Mace.
She was born Margaret Sue Mace on March 3, 1939, to Lucian and Claire (Buster) Mace in Miller County, Mo. She married Jackie “Jack” Tennyson Wyrick in 1960. They were married for 23 years until Jack died suddenly in 1983. She later married William “Bill” Anderson in 1993.
She graduated from Tuscumbia High School in 1957. She earned a B.A. degree from Mount Mercy College and a M.A. degree from Nova University. She worked as a teachers' aide in the Cedar Rapids Community School District before becoming a business instructor at Kirkwood Community College, where she taught for 27 years. She retired in 2001. She was a kind and thoughtful teacher and was cared for deeply by countless students.
Sue loved to travel and over the years had taken trips to China, France, Italy, Australia, Alaska and many more. She loved Iowa except for winter so she escaped to Florida in January each year where she made many good friends, as she did everywhere she went.
Instead of flowers, Sue asked for memorials to be given to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
