Anderson, Richard D. 'Dick'
Richard D. “Dick” Anderson, 81, of Prairie du Chien, Wis., formerly of Belle Plaine, died Sunday, August 29, 2010, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. A private family memorial service will be held Sept. 10 and 11.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen Anderson of Prairie du Chien; three daughters, Susan Anderson of Prairie du Chien, Deborah (Dan) Drahos of Belle Plaine, and Sherry (Jarrod) Picha of La Crosse, Wis., four sons; Richard Jr. of LaCrosse, Steven (Ginger) of Coon Rapids, Minn., Dennis of Dwight, Ill., and John (Cheryl Hargens) of Tama; a son-in-law, Steve Pohlabel of Milwaukee, Wis.; two brothers, Jack (Karen) of Fox Lake, Ill., and Donnie (Janet) of Arlington Heights, Ill.; a sister, Betty Anderson of Little Rock, Ark.; 22 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert; a brother, James; and four sisters, Judy, Madeline, Jean and Joanne.
He was born April 30, 1929, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the son of James and Gladys (Sparrowgrove) Anderson. He served in the U.S. Navy and later in the Naval Reserves. He married Helen Cox on July 14, 1950, in Corinth, Miss. He worked as a truck driver in the Chicago area. He owned and operated the Lincoln Café in Belle Plaine, and later the Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts Store in Prairie du Chien. Dick loved gardening and grew beautiful tomatoes and flowers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
