Anderson, Loretta E.
Loretta E. Anderson, 86, of Lamont, died Friday evening, Sept. 10, 2010, at her home with her family at her side. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, at Grace United Methodist Church, Lamont, with the Rev. Darwin Moore officiating. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, and one hour before the service Wednesday at the church. Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein.
Loretta Estella McGuire was born Dec. 21, 1923, at Chelsea, Iowa, the daughter of Alva Henry and Martha Jane (McKusker) McGuire. She graduated from Troy Mills High School in 1940. Loretta was united in marriage to William Eric Anderson on Dec. 2, 1940, at Grace United Methodist Church, Lamont. They farmed for 16 years and then owned and operated the Anderson Grocery Store in Lamont for 21 years.
Loretta was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Ruth Circle and the Lamont Garden Club. She enjoyed crocheting, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, playing cribbage and cards, gardening and she especially loved to spend time with her family.
Loretta is survived by her two daughters, Dian Smith of Lamont and Judy Porter of Lamont; two sons, Ronald (Karen) Anderson of Stockbridge, Ga., and William (Diane) Anderson of Lamont; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Richardson of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William on Aug. 4, 1990; great-granddaughter, Hannah Anderson; brother, Charles McGuire; and three sisters, Opal Achenbach, Lucille Jordan and Donna Jean Reams.
A memorial fund has been established for Grace United Methodist Church and Cedar Valley Hospice.
