Anderson, Gene Russell
Gene Russell Anderson, 88, passed away comfortably at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids on Dec. 8, 2010, with family at his side. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at St. Joseph's Church in Prairieburg. Father Wayne Droessler will officiate at the service. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Prairieburg.
Surviving are Den (Jane) McNamara of Backus, Minn., who Gene and Alice raised; two sisters, Betty Carl of Anamosa and Lois Winchip of Monticello; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice in 2007; a sister, Rose Marie; and a brother, Roger Anderson.
Gene Russell Anderson was born May 24, 1922, in Buffalo Township, Iowa, the son of Beverly and Elizabeth (Crawford) Anderson. Gene was a 1940 graduate of Anamosa High School. On Dec. 9, 1943, Gene and Alice Urbanek were united in marriage at St. Joseph's Church in Stone City. Gene spent the majority of his life farming in the Prairieburg and Jones County area.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Prairieburg for more than 55 years, the snowmobile club and several card clubs. Gene enjoyed working in his craft shop, painting, learning about the local history of Jones County and just being around people. Gene touched many people's lives and he will be missed dearly by all those who knew him.
