Andersen, Bernita W.
Bernita W. Andersen, 93, of Springville, passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, by the Rev. Sherry Andersen. Visitation will be from to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial: Springville Cemetery.
Survivors include her four children, daughter, Kathleen Andersen of Iowa City, son, Lyle Andersen and wife Marilyn of Springville, Lavonne Yanda and husband John of Anamosa and Rex Andersen of Marion; six grandchildren, Wayne Yanda, Gary Yanda, Crystal Andersen and husband Jeff Paul, Jill Andersen, Jayna Beal and husband Andrew and Lindsey Decker and husband Ryan; and four great-grandchildren, Finley and Gavin Paul and Jaxson and Piper Beal.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents; her brother, Robert Wild; and two half sisters.
Bernita was born March 19, 1920, the daughter of William and Lydia (Muenstermann) Wild in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Springville High School in 1937 and attended business college in California. On Feb. 8, 1946, she married Kenneth Andersen. He passed away April 27, 1978. Bernita worked at Collins Radio and also at the Linn County Conservation Office for many years.
Bernita was a longtime member of the Springville Alumni Association and enjoyed helping with the Springville Historical Society.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Bernita's memory.
