Amy Marie Semelroth, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 2, 2016, at The Villages of Marion.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the chapel. Entombment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Amy was born Jan. 31, 1925, in Maynard, Iowa, to Samuel and Sherrife (Jabara) Hamed. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids in 1943. She was united in marriage to Howard Semelroth on March 18, 1950, in Cedar Rapids. To this union a son, Dan, was born. He preceded her in death in 2008.
Amy worked as a bookkeeper at Tubb's Transport Service for 33 years. She also worked at Tupperware and at Bell and Van Zee CPA firm, where she retired.
She was a member of the Islamic Center, VFW Patrick J. Shanahan Post 788 Ladies Auxiliary, Fairfax American Legion Auxiliary 0572 and Moose Lodge 515 in Cedar Rapids. Amy served as treasurer of VFW Post 788 for seven years.
Amy was loved and respected by her family and friends, and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her sister, Doris Hamad of Birmingham, Mich.; brother, Bob (Kay) Hamed of Lakewood, Ohio; as well as several loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard, in 1983; brothers, Emmitt and Abe Hamed; and sisters, Lila Omar, Fatima Igram and Della Peterson.
Memorials in Amy's name may be directed to the VFW Patrick J. Shanahan Post 788 Ladies Auxiliary, Islamic Center of Cedar Rapids or a charity of the donor's choice.
