Amy L. (Fletchall) Banowetz was born on May 19, 1977, in Madison, S.D., the daughter of Rod D. and Marilyn J. (Hemmingson) Fletchall. She attended elementary school in Madison, S.D., before the family moved to Independence, Iowa, in 1988. In 1996 she graduated from Independence High School and went on to receive her bachelor's degree in business from Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids. Amy worked at Rockwell Collins for 15 years.
Amy loved to spend time outside. She enjoyed landscaping and home improvement projects. She often would take Hayden on walks to the pond near their home to feed the ducks, turtles, and the deer. Amy and John liked to travel, and they went on many cruises throughout the Caribbean and one to Hawaii.
Amy suffered from multiple sclerosis. She fought with her illness for many years but made the most out of her life and loved spending time with her family. She cherished every minute with her daughter. Amy passed away suddenly on Monday, May 10, 2021 at UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She is survived by her daughter, Hayden Banowetz; Hayden's father, Matt Banowetz; her fiancé, John Thoreson, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her parents, Rod and Marilyn Fletchall, Independence, Iowa; two sisters, Lisa (Nick) Mahoney, Marion, Iowa, and Tracy (Brian) Neurohr, Ankeny, Iowa; three nieces, one nephew, three aunts, three uncles, and her maternal grandmother, Mary Hemmingson, Madison, S.D.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 13, at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to make donations, in honor of Amy, to her daughter's memorial fund at Bank Iowa, under the name Hayden Banowetz at the location 230 First St. E, Independence, IA 50644.
