Amthauer, Loren Eugene 'Gene'
Loren Eugene “Gene” Amthauer, 80, of Manchester, died at home Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012. Services will be held at a later date.
Loren was born March 30, 1932, in Junction City, Kan., to Andrew and Gertrude Galloway Amthauer. He married Phyllis J. Smock on Sept. 8, 1951, in Edgewood, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; five children, Tom (Michelle Letts) of Strawberry Point, Stephen (Jolene) of Delhi, Pixie Cole of Edgewood, Michele “Mick” (Jon Klein) of Dundee, and Toni (Jim Lewis) of Manchester; a foster daughter, Sandy Davis of Quasqueton; former son-in-law, Loren Hadenfeldt; one sister, Mary Fisher of Marion; 25 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Jake and Jessie Smock; a grandson, Jason Amthauer; a brother, George “Bud”; two sisters, Hazel and Ruth; three brothers-in-law, Lawrence Kamm, Andy Jensen, and Lyle Fisher; and a sister-in-law, Cookie Amthauer.
Loren worked many years as a truck driver before working for GTE and retiring in 2002. He didn't like retirement so he started working for Hansel Enterprises delivering papers for the last 10 years. He was a Navy veteran.
Loren will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
