Amsler, Wayne Thomas

Wayne Thomas Amsler, 49, of 803 Ninth St. SW, Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, of cancer. A service of remembrance will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, where friends may visit after 6 p.m. Thursday. Wayne requested his body be cremated. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery.

Wayne is survived by two brothers, Tony (Jo) of Monticello, and Jeff of Cedar Rapids; and seven nieces and nephews, Clayton, Chase, Katlin, Jennifer, Emily, Bethany and Matthew.

His parents and brothers, Robert and Kenneth, preceded him in death.

Wayne was born Aug. 1, 1960, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Raymond and Barbara Fischer Amsler. He was a 1978 graduate of Jefferson High School and received his AA from Kirkwood College in 2004. Wayne served in the Air Force from 1978 to 1984.

Wayne was an avid science fiction reader. Despite being declared legally blind in 1998, he lived life without restrictions.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
