Ameling, Felix William
Felix William Ameling died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at his home in West Union following a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Holy Name Catholic Church, West Union, with the Rev. Dale Rausch officiating. A private family inurnment will be at a later date at St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery, Festina.
Felix was born Nov. 9, 1927, in St. Lucas, Iowa, the son of John and Mathilde (Kruse) Ameling. On Oct. 26, 1949, he was united in marriage to Colette Langreck in St. Lucas and this past year they celebrated 61 years of marriage. To this union six children were born. After receiving his education from St. Luke's schools he enlisted in the Army and served in Korea. Felix farmed, hauled milk and worked for Garvin's hauling liquid petroleum from 1979 until the time of his retirement in 1999.
He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.
Felix is survived by his wife, Colette; one daughter, Pat (Dick) Raddatz of Cedar Rapids; three sons, Dave (Dianne) Ameling of Ossian, Dan (Sayonara) Ameling of Pineville, Mo., and Tom (Laura) Ameling of Clermont; eight grandchildren, Chad Raddatz, Phillip Ameling, Greg Ameling, Danielle Ameling, Jonathan Ameling, Alisha (Juan) Arias, Josh Christen (Donna Green, special friend) and Nichole Hernandez; three great-granddaughters, Jordan, Kaylee and Ava; and three sisters, Marcella Wurzer, Arlene Huinker and Bernice Einck.
Felix was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Carl on Sept. 27, 1972, and Michael on Oct. 23, 2009; one sister, Viola Mihm; and five brothers, Joe, Richard, Irvin, Clarence and Alfred.
In lieu of flowers, the family will establish a memorial fund.
