Amelia “Mimi” Warner
Amelia “Mimi” Warner
Solon
Our beloved Amelia “Mimi” Warner passed away on November 25, 2025. Born on July 14, 1945, she lived a life brimming with love, creativity, passion, and joy—leaving an unforgettable imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Passionate, loving, artistic, and endlessly empathetic, Amelia was a fierce champion of the arts. She adored Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism,
Fauvism, and Cubism—movements she could discuss with equal parts scholarship and enthusiasm. Mimi poured her creative spirit into her interior design work and her stores, Amelia’s, in downtown Cedar Rapids and Coralville. Known for understated, high-quality custom furniture, original art, and global décor, Amelia’s carried the fitting tagline: “All things beautiful.” Her discerning eye and devotion to craftsmanship attracted clients from both coasts—and even Alaska, which she considered a personal triumph.
Though not a sports fanatic by nature, Amelia cheered passionately for her alma mater, the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, and never missed a chance to root for her children and grandchildren from the stands. She especially relished watching her son Kurt fulfill his dreams in professional football and eventually enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame—a milestone she celebrated with the kind of exuberance she normally reserved for spotting a perfect piece of art.
Amelia loved traveling, gathering with her family, savoring cups of perilously strong coffee on her screened-in porch, and getting lost in good books. Italy, Peru, the San Francisco Bay Area, Santa Cruz, Montana, Wyoming, and Northern Minnesota held
special places in her heart. She wished for her ashes to
be scattered at Jenny Lake, at the base of the Grand Tetons—a place she found endlessly beautiful and, in her words, “nearly perfect…except that the coffee isn’t quite strong enough around here.”
Her culinary tastes were clear-cut: Italian food forever, sushi never—much to the ongoing bemusement of her family. Among her favorite dining spots were Phil’s Fish Market in Moss Landing, Gayle’s Bakery in Capitola, Jenny Lake Lodge in Grand Teton National Park, Cowboy Coffee in Jackson Hole, The Freighthouse in La Crosse, Vini Vidi Vicci in Atlanta, and Biaggi’s in Cedar Rapids.
A dedicated advocate for women’s rights, environmental stewardship, and artistic integrity, Amelia held firmly to her values. Her home was almost always filled with music—played, fittingly, “at 11.” Her musical taste was eclectic, encompassing a diverse range of artists, including Bob Dylan, Yo-Yo Ma, Andrea Bocelli, Pavarotti, Amos Lee, Jay-Z, The Beatles, Nathaniel Rateliff, Elvis, and The Moody Blues, among many others.
Amelia loved learning and teaching in equal measure. She encouraged everyone around her to embrace life, recognize beauty, and value education. While proud of her professional accomplishments, nothing delighted her more than cheering on her family. She celebrated her children’s diverse achievements—from healthcare executive leadership, to entrepreneurship in technology, to the NFL Hall of Fame—as though each new milestone deserved its own parade. Mimi's 16 grandchildren were the love of her
life. She took a keen interest in their lives and adored spending time with them. She was over the moon about the remarkable people they are and are becoming. They will miss her terribly.
Amelia’s legacy is one of kindness, passion, humor, and an unwavering love for all things beautiful. Her family and friends will miss her deeply. She was a gift to so many. May God bless and keep her soul! Amelia leaves behind her devoted husband of 50 years, Gene Warner; her sons, Matt Post (Keri), Matt Warner (Katie), and Kurt Warner (Brenda); her daughter, Becky Harris (Paul); her sister, Melody Meyer; and her brother, Mark Meyer. Grandchildren: Zack Warner, Amber Brandenburg, Jesse Stanton (Daniel), Kade Warner (Abi), Jada Warner, EJ Warner, Sierra Warner, Sienna Warner, Isaac Warner, Samuel Warner, Adeline Post, Merritt Post, Carter Warner,
Cooper Warner, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd Meyer and Mary Evelyn Meyer-Hartz.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Mimi’s honor on July 12, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Cedar Ridge Winery and Distillery. Please join us then to share a story, shed a tear, and raise a glass to a beautiful life well lived by a remarkable person. Cheers!
