Amelia "Amy" Jenny Gearhart, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died her home Thursday, April 1, 2021. following a short illness. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Murphy. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends are welcome to attend a vigil Service for Amy at 4 p.m., on Monday at Teahen Funeral Home. Those not attending the vigil Service may visit with the family from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Per Covid guidelines, attendees are required to wear masks and practice social distancing.
Amy is survived by three sons, Steven of Cedar Rapids, John (Mary Beth) of Light House Point, Fla., and Scott (Sue) of Mount Vernon; two daughters, Julie (Jim) Kinkead and Jill (Cory) McGarvey, both of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren, Catrine, Cassandra, Jason, Stephanie, Cameron, Sean, Caitlin, Emily, Matt, Liz and Abby; 10 great-grandchildren and two on the way; sister, Phyllis Hoffman of Cedar Rapids; brother, Bob (Betty) Upah of Belle Plaine; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Chuck; brothers, Nicholas and Bernard Upah; and sister, Mary Meger.
Amy was born March 9, 1931, in Chelsea, the daughter of Leo and Albia Wobeter Upah. She graduated from Nursing School at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids. On July 6, 1957, she married Charles "Chuck" Gearhart at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chelsea. Amy was a RN for Mercy Medical Center of more than 30 years, retiring in 1992. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and was very strong in her faith.
Amy loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, making afghans and working crossword puzzles. Amy will be missed by her family and friends.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
