AMBROSE "BUTCH" FRANCIS WEGMANN
Delhi
Ambrose "Butch" Francis Wegmann, 88, of Delhi, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha, surrounded by his family.
He was born on July 11, 1933, in Petersburg, the son of Alphonse and Antonette "Nettie" (Deppe) Wegmann.
He attended high school in Dyersville and graduated from Xavier in 1951.
Butch married Patricia "Patsy" Bockenstedt on Jan. 19, 1957. Five children were born to this union. Butch and Pat farmed together for many years on their farm near Strawberry Point before retiring to Lake Delhi in 2001.
Butch excelled at basketball in school, setting records and where he was known as "The Great Amby." He will be honored as a military veteran, serving two years in the Army stationed in Germany for the Korean War. He had passions playing for the Wegmann softball team, fishing on Lake Delhi, singing in the church choir, and always had time for a good card game of euchre. Butch and Patsy loved to sing and dance, especially Saturday nights to the Lawrence Welk TV show.
Survivors include his two sons, Steve Wegmann and his three children, Jamie (Jennifer), Joey (Rachel) and Jessica; and Michael Wegmann and his partner Craig Gatarz and their daughters, Ava and Sophia; two daughters, Ann Wegmann and Susie (Kyle) Decker and their daughter, Ashley (Brad) Temple; four great-granddaughters, Claire, Taylor, Quinn and Tori; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Berlin-Wegmann; two siblings, Ralph Wegmann and LuAnn (Bob) Mescher; and godchildren, Rooter Wegmann, Scotty Wegmann and Jane Wegmann.
Butch was preceded in death by his beloved Pat in 2016; his son, Chris, in 2013; as well as his parents; his siblings, Armella (Larry) Weiferich, Dorothy (Art Esch and Emmet Pfeiler) Pfeiler, John (Vickie) Wegmann, Alvin (Sally) Wegmann, Eileen (Jack) Meder and Harriet (Leon) Maiers; and sister-in-law, Leona Wegmann.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Memorials may be directed to the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, 104 Third St. SW, Dyersville, IA 52040.
