Alvina Mae Gaede Pearce, 87, of Heritage Special Care in Cedar Rapids, formerly of the Sumner and Waverly areas, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Services for Alvina will be private for family only. Burial: Spring Fountain Cemetery in Sumner.
Survivors include three granddaughters, Kris (Bob) Matus of Springville, Michelle Gaede of Marion and Cayleen (Bob) Mesecher of Ankeny; her great-grandchildren, Aubree (Nic) Klima, Shelby (Mitch) Meythaler, Taylor Matus, Tyler Gaede and Jayden Mesecher; her great-great-grandchildren, Brooklynn Klima, Nevaeh Klima, Klaira Klima and Rhyla Klima; and her sister, Mary Hennings of Waverly.
Alvina was born Sept. 25, 1929, in Ionia, Iowa, to William and Evelyn (Roethler) Grahlman. She was a farm wife and waitressed for many years. She first married Roy Gaede in 1947. He died in October 1965. She then married Loyal Pearce and resided in Illinois for many years. Loyal died in 1983. Alvina had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening. She also loved baseball and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Roy Gaede and Loyal Pearce; her son, Ronald Gaede; her brother, Donald; her sister, Melba; and her twin sisters, who died in infancy.
Memorials may be directed to Care Initiatives Hospice in Cedar Rapids in Alvina's memory.
