Alvin W. Logan Jr., age 86, longtime resident of Iowa City, died Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
A time for family and friends to gather to remember and celebrate Alvin’s life will be held from 1 to 3 pm Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his memory to Alzheimer’s Association – Eastern Iowa Chapter in Cedar Rapids. Alvin W. Logan was born November 13, 1937, in Muskogee, OK, the son of Alvin W. and Ethel Mae (Pettis) Logan. Following graduation from high school he attended Oklahoma State University and Langston University, receiving his degree in Microbiology. On June 6, 1959, he married Marva W. Dunevant. The family moved to the Iowa City area where Alvin worked for the State Hygienic Laboratory until beginning his career of over 25 years as the president of SECO, retiring in 2002.
His family includes his wife, Marva; their three sons, Vincent Logan (Lisa), Victor Logan (Gina), and Mark Logan; two grandchildren, Jordan and Andrea; and his two brothers, Carl Logan (Barbara) and Marcus Logan (Yvonne).
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Larry, Benny and Jackie Logan; and two sisters, Faye Jean Bruce and Marcena Cooper.
