ALMENA WHITE Cedar Rapids Almena White, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, July 20, 2017, at Heritage Specialty Care following a courageous battle with cancer. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Redemption Ministries by Bishop Robert L. Green. Teahen Funeral Home and Cremation Services is serving the family. Almena is survived by her husband, James; children, Daniel LaBlanche of Cedar Rapids, Joseph LaBlanche of Wausau, Wis., Delilah LaBlanche of Minneapolis, Minn., and Learitha LaBlanche of Calumet City, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Almena Normalee Selbicky was born Sept. 6, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Milo and Delilah Smith Selbicky. She married James L. White on March 29, 1980, at Redemption Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids, where she was a devoted member. Almena was a wonderful homemaker who loved fellowshipping with her family and helping at her church. She collected stuffed animals and loved nature, often watching squirrels and rabbits from her window. Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Isaiah 40:31.
