Alma Josephine Lana, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at Evergreen Estates I. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, by the Rev. Dennis Juhl. Burial: St. John Cemetery. Friends
may visit with the family on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. at the church on Tuesday.
Alma is survived by her two sons, Patrick (Annette) of Lakewood, Colo., and Dean of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Julia Lana, Anthony (Amy) Lana, Christine (Paul Smalley) Cooper, Kyle Lana, Cody (Angie) Lana, Eric Lana, Korey Lana and Jeff Lana; five great-grandchildren, Taylor Cooper, Rylee Cooper, Collin (Trina) Cooper, Andrew and Sophie Lana; a great-great-grand-daughter on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ignatius; her parents; and three sisters, Rose Skalsky, Irene Earsa and Mary Witousek.
Alma Josephine was born Sept. 4, 1919, in Swisher, the daughter of Edward and Ada (See) Turecek. She married Ignatius A. Lana on June 23, 1941, in Cedar Rapids. She attended Iowa State Teachers College and then worked for Linn, Johnson and Scott county schools.
She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially kolaches and rosettes, gardening and traveling, but spending time with her family was her greatest joy.
Alma was a farm girl at heart and had many wild stories that she loved to share.
Memorials contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society or St. Ludmila Catholic Church.
