Allan Joseph Serovy, 91, of Solon, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, in his home. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Tim Sheedy presiding. Burial will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery near Solon. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Solon is caring for Allan's arrangements.
Allan was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Mount Vernon, the son of Frank and Mary (Kleineck) Serovy. He graduated from Solon High School. Allan was united in marriage to Pearl Marie Carlson on April 19, 1949, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton. He farmed nearly his whole life in the Solon area. He worked at the Iowa City Liquor Store and managed the Mount Vernon Liquor Store for many years.
He loved music and had a nice singing voice. He played drums with five area bands, starting with Kenny Hofer. He served on the board of Sts. Peter and Paul Historical Foundation and worked many hours getting it on the National Register of Historic Places. He loved having coffee with his friends at Sutliff. He enjoyed celebrating the Fourth of July with fireworks and roasting a hog. Fishing, traveling to Branson and spending time with his family were special times.
Allan is survived by his wife, Pearl; children, Lawrence (Judy) Serovy and Carol (Andrew) Fields, both of Solon; five grandchildren, Andrew (Lisa) Serovy, Angela Burke, Joshua (Angie) Serovy, Quinn Fields and Elissa Fields; five great-grandchildren, Madison, Mallory, Zach, Logan and Slaten; and a daughter-in-law, Terry Serovy of Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Michael and Ronald Serovy; his daughter, Janet Serovy; and a brother, Robert Serovy.
