ALLAN "GENE" REYHONS Mount Vernon Allan "Gene" Eugene Reyhons, 84, died Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Hallmark Care Center, Mount Vernon, after a battle with cancer. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, March 30, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mount Vernon, by the Rev. Jack R. Flaherty. Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon (formerly Morgan's). Burial: St. John's Cemetery, Lisbon. Survivors include his son, Matt (Kimberly) Reyhons; son, Ken (Nicki) McCurdy; grandchildren, Zeb Light, Bailey Reyhons, Mikayla Reyhons and Blake and Caden McCurdy; niece, Julie Lefebure; and nephews, Marty Gorkow, Steve Gorkow and Pat Gorkow. Gene was born Sept. 2, 1930, in Lisbon, Iowa, to Edward and Margaret (Bartlett) Reyhons. He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1947, where he was the class president. After high school, he served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Upon returning, he graduated from the University of Iowa in 1956. Gene began working for the State of Iowa Legislative Service Bureau, then moved to Michigan to become the director of the Legislative Service Bureau for the State of Michigan in 1967. In 1965, Gene married Mercedes Harris, later divorcing in 1986. In 1982, Gene retired from the State of Michigan and moved back to the family farm in Lisbon in 1986. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret Gorkow. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society.
