Allamand, 'Ev'
Lotus “Ev” Allamand, 60, of 3000 Tamarack Lane, Marion, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at his home, after a courageous battle with a chordoma tumor. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Marion, by the Rev. Gregory R. Williamson. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, and one hour before services Thursday at the church. Military Honors will be conducted. Burial: Holy Cross Cemetery, Anamosa, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Denise of Marion; his children, Kimbree Roethler of Cedar Rapids, Shane Allamand of the Philippines, and stepson, Eric Bieber of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Mary (Merlin) Husmann of Monticello, and Roma Joslin of Palmer, Alaska; brother, Arnold (Mary) Allamand of Scotch Grove; grandchildren, Sharelle, Trey and Jadyn; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ray and Bertha Finn of Anamosa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Michael (Nurit) Finn of Anamosa, Kelly Finn of Iowa City, Marcia Finn of Anamosa, Anne Siebels of Anamosa, Elizabeth (Phillip) Smith of Cedar Rapids, and Tim Finn of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Larry and Lenny; sisters, Donna, Pamelia and Pauline; and brothers-in-law, Danny and Patrick.
Lotus Everett was born Feb. 5, 1949, the son of Lawrence and Erma (Joslin) Allamand, in Anamosa, Iowa. He married Patricia Bressler and later divorced. He married Denise Finn Bieber on Sept. 14, 1990, in Marion. Ev was employed at Iowa Fire Protection for 35 years, retiring in 2008. He served in the Air Force as a heavy equipment instructor.
Ev was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marion, Road Sprinkler Fitters Local Union No. 669, and the Marion American Legion Post No. 298. Ev was also a licensed plumber and skilled craftsman. He was an award winning wrestler in high school and while serving in the Air Force, won the Air Force National Wrestling Tournament. Ev was an avid dancer, singer, loved the outdoors, enjoyed fishing and playing cards. One of Ev's greatest passions was his barn, which he truly enjoyed restoring.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ev's memory.
