Alison Jane Schmorr, 58, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully at home, Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018. Service: 10 a.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home by Chaplain Joe Kane.

Alison is survived by her sister, Gloria (Ray) Schmorr Fiday of Chicago; brother, Keith Schmorr of Dallas; aunts, Christina (Calvin) Moore and Ada Olmstead of Cedar Rapids; and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Stephen Schmorr.

Alison was born on July 12, 1959, daughter of Edward and Arnolia Rawson Schmorr, in Woodbury, N.J. She grew up in California and Oklahoma, and graduated from Daniel Webster High School in Tulsa, Okla. Following graduation, Alison moved to Gatesway Residential and later to Copps Residential.

Alison enjoyed music, ceramics, dancing, skating and swimming. She won several awards while participating in the Special Olympics. Alison traveled frequently to Chicago, where she enjoyed the beach and boat rides on Lake Michigan, as well as numerous restaurants and shopping trips. She loved the Christmas decorations in downtown Chicago, particularly the animated figurines. Alison also traveled to Dallas and Washington, D.C., and made numerous trips to Florida. Above all, Alison loved traveling to Cedar Rapids to visit her aunts, uncles and cousins, so in November 2013, she moved there to be closer to family.

Alison was a profoundly sensitive and wise soul who demonstrated countless examples of courage, love and unwavering faith. Her humor was delightful and playful, and her laughter was musical and contagious. Spending time with Alison and getting to know her was a precious gift.

The family would like to thank the staff at REM Iowa, Milestones Adult Day Program and Hiawatha Care Center for the kind and compassionate care they provided to our beloved Alison.
