Alice Strong, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, at the Lisbon Care Facility.
Alice was born June 5, 1928, in Waukon, Iowa, to Richard and Verne (Rush) Stahl. Alice lived in Lansing and graduated from Lansing Kee High School. On June 19, 1946, she was united in marriage to Merlin L. Strong at the Presbyterian Church in Lansing. Alice worked at the Button Factory in Lansing, and Alice and Merlin owned and operated a tavern in town. Alice and Merlin traveled and enjoyed six winters in Florida with Merlin working as a carpenter. Upon returning to Iowa, she was employed at the University of Iowa as a housekeeper in the student dorms, while Merlin worked as a carpenter at the hospital.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Dale) Bruening; her son, Roger (Barb) Strong; and daughter, Rita Strong, all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Todd and Tiffany Bruening and Amanda Strong; great-grandchildren, Jessica and Damian; and great-great-grandchild, Karly, all of Cedar Rapids. She also is survived by six brothers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin; granddaughter, Trisha; and three sisters.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Julie Freese officiating. Inurnment will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the family.
