Alice Marie Stone, 72, of Iowa City, passed away Monday, Sept. 12, 2016, at Mercy Iowa City surrounded by her children and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Very Rev. Rudolph T. Juarez officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Arthritis Foundation.
Alice was born Nov. 29, 1943, in Humboldt, Iowa, to Raymond and Marie (Fandel) Elbert. She graduated from Bishop Garrigan High School in Algona. Alice married Gale Stone on Feb. 17, 1968, in Algona. He preceded her in death on May 14, 2007.
Alice and Gale raised one daughter and one son, who survive her, Carla (Jon) Hart of Urbandale and Erik (Jenn) Stone of Iowa City. Five grandchildren mourn her death, Kristin and Allie Hart, Steven and Maggie Huting and Wyatt Stone.
Alice lived and worked around the world while her husband served in the U.S. Navy. In 1984, the Stones settled in Iowa City. For the past 32 years, Alice worked at Hills Bank and Trust in the purchasing department. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
She was the second youngest of five children and is survived by three siblings, Helen (Marion) Casey of LuVerne, Jim (Patricia) Elbert of Algona and Raymond (Carrie) Elbert of Algona; and four brothers and sisters-in-law, Rosalie Elbert of Iowa City, Robert (Shirley) Stone of Houston, Texas, Pamela (Gerald) Dean of Grand Island, Neb., and Niki (Mark) Jones of Dickens, Iowa.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Dennis Elbert; father- and mother-in-law, R. Carl and Dorothy (Benson) Stone; and a niece, Pam Elbert.
The family would like to thank Dr. Feeley, Dr. Sarin and the nursing staff on Mercy's 3 West and Cancer Care of Iowa City.
