Cedar Rapids
Alice Rochelle Evans, aged 62, of Cedar Rapids, was embraced by the warmth of the Lord’s light on March 9, 2024, in Omaha. Born on January 22, 1962, in Chicago, Illinois, Alice's exuberant spirit and loving heart shaped the lives of everyone she touched.
Alice will be fondly remembered at a visitation starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 pm at the same location, where we will gather to share stories, laughter, and tears. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Alice's journey began as a beam of sunshine to her parents, Nelson Jr. and Mary (Davis) Evans. She was a star on the softball fields of Jefferson High and a generous soul at the Cedar Hills Booster Club. Her academic pursuits led her to Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa, a testament to her enduring thirst for knowledge.
Her vivacity took her to Atlanta, Georgia, where alongside her sister and her son, Araf, whom she lovingly referred to as the anchor of her life, Alice found joy in the simplest of moments up until her grandbabies, Araf Jr. and Aaliyah, entered her world. Her roles were many: a skilled computer programmer, a compassionate voice in customer service, a masterful medical transcriptionist, and a creative entrepreneur and Chef of My Personal Chef and AJ’s Cafe.
In her earlier years, Alice, as the eldest sibling, embraced the role of a second mother to her brother, Nelson III, whom she affectionately called "her baby.”
Alice's legacy is not only etched in her professional achievements but in the laughter and warmth she brought into any room, her legendary jokes, and the food that seemed to comfort souls.
Her devotion to her faith was sincere, and most importantly, Alice, had recommitted her life to the Lord. She was dedicated to spending time with her family, especially cherishing moments with her grandchildren.
Alice's special bond was felt by everyone in her family, but it was the unique love for her father, Nelson, that remained unmatched. She is survived by her father, Nelson, her son, Araf Sr. (Stephanie), her grandchildren, Araf Jr and Aaliyah, her beloved doggie daughter, Bia Bella, her sister, Gladys, her brother, Liam, nieces Erica (Ben), Rochelle, and Brittany, nephew Braylon and a great-nephew, a great-niece, and a family that loved her dearly.
She joins in peace her mother, Mary, brother, Nelson IV and her grandparents, leaving us with memories too beautiful to forget.
At this time, in lieu of flowers, food or monetary gifts to the family, we will honor Alice’s legacy with a named scholarship. All donations will be used to help other students attend college. Let us celebrate Alice life and legacy by contributing to the college education of students in need in her honor.
Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.broshchapel.com
As we bid farewell to Alice, we invite you to carry her spirit forward: laugh wholeheartedly, love deeply, and live fully, just as she did every day of her remarkable journey.
