Alice was born Aug. 14, 1922, in rural Pocahontas County, Iowa, to Harvey and Mary (Hobson) Hauswirth. She attended Corwith High School and was captain of her girls' basketball team. She graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor's degree in foods and nutrition. While in school, Alice was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and later involved in the Delta Zeta Alumni Group. On Dec. 18, 1943, she was united in marriage to Jack Davis Rector in Ames.
Alice had resided in Cedar Rapids since 1952. She was an accomplished homemaker. She and Jack were active church members. Alice was a president of Washington High School PTA, a Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Campfire Girls leader. She was also a member of PEO.
Alice loved making travel plans to many places in the U.S. and overseas with Jack. Her interest in genealogy lead her to compile a book of her ancestors. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Iowa State Cyclones. Alice loved music, was a talented seamstress, home decorator and a true artist expressing her love with her hands even after her stroke.
Alice is survived by her husband; four children, John Rector of Cedar Rapids, W. Rex Rector of Arlington, Texas, Edward (Cynthia) Rector of Santa Fe, N.M., and Barbara (Terry) Ohnstad of Littleton, Colo.; five grandchildren, Crela Rector of Las Vegas, Nev., Hayden and Stuart Rector, both of Santa Fe, N.M., Kyle (Jennifer) Ohnstad of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Erin (Kynton) Chan of Aurora, Colo.; and four great-grandchildren, Aiden, Gabriel, Emily and Gavin.
