Traer
Alice Mae Zimple, 86, of Traer, passed away Friday, Dec. 11, 2020. at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. A private family graveside service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 15, at the Buckingham Cemetery in Traer. A walk through visitation with limited number at one time will be heldfrom 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in
Tama. Social distancing is to be maintained and masks will be required.
Alice was born on Aug. 24, 1934, in Carroll Township, rural Clutier, Iowa, the daughter of Fred J. and Frances M. (Parizek) Kupka.
She graduated from Traer High School in 1952.
On Nov. 22, 1954, she was united in marriage to Dean Allen Zimple in Traer, Iowa. They began farming southeast of Traer and moved to La Porte City in 1957. They moved back to Traer in 1963, where she worked at the Traer Star-Clipper for nearly 30 years. She had also worked at the Robert Powell Law Firm, La Porte City Sale Barn, and did bookkeeping for private individuals. Alice was an active member of the Traer United Methodist Church, where she served as the recording secretary and organized funeral luncheons and other kitchen activities. She was also involved in the church UMW, where she was secretary/treasurer for many years. She and Dean liked to take road trips and made many trips to Nashville, Tenn. They also liked to attend dances and were both active in the Boy Scouts.
Survivors include three sons, Galen Dean (Carol J.) Zimple of Traer, Larry Allen (Alice) Zimple of Cedar Rapids and Kevin Lee (Cindy) Zimple of Traer; six grandchildren, Trusha (Chris) Shimp, Jason Zimple, Holly (Ben) Nablo, Nicolas Alveraz-Zimple, Trista Zimple and Zander Zimple; two stepgrandchildren, Todd Bergman and Joi (Tad) Alexander; three great-grandchildren, Kacey and Danielle Shimp and Ben Nablo Jr.; one sister, Evelyn Caloud of Traer; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Dean, in 1994; daughter, Carol, in 2010; three brothers, Anton (Irene) Kupka, William (Eleanor) Kupka and Alfred (Mayme) Kupka; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Norbert Caloud, Wayne (Donna) Zimple and Ray (Shirley) Zimple.
