Alice L. Freeman, 94, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Heritage Specialty Care in Cedar Rapids. Memorial service: 5 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2018, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial will be at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Alice was born Sept. 30, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Ollie and Frances (Young) Zier. She graduated from Roosevelt High School. Alice married Raymond Freeman on July 1, 1950. Raymond passed away in 2013. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and worked at The Gazette in collections. Eventually, she became a full-time homemaker. Alice loved to be outdoors, camping, fishing and the couple enjoyed their winters in Arizona. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards and spending time with her family, especially the times she would make cookies with her grandchildren.
Alice is survived by her children, Steven (Patricia) Freeman of Cedar Rapids and Pam (Thomas) Martens of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jennifer McBurney, Joshua Freeman, Matthew Martens (Katie Larson), Adam (Jessica) Martens and Jessica (Josh) Schindel; great-grandchildren, Brianna, Taylor, Savannah and Raylin; sister, Ruth Dyrland of Cedar Rapids; a nephew, Doug; and a niece, Deb.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother-in-law, Eugene Dyrland.
Memorials may be directed to Care Initiative Hospice.
