Alice Addie Cira, 101, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, at Mercy Hallmar in Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Funeral Mass: 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Marion, by Father David O'Connor. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Alice is survived by five children, Mike (Laura) Cira, Marion, Janet (Earl) Crutchley, St. Louis, Mo., Joseph (Diana) Cira and Joanne (Steve) Carfrae, all of Cedar Rapids and Louis Cira, Mason City; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; a grandson, James Crutchley; her five brothers, Rueben, Gerald, Almon, Lawrence and Orville; and daughter-in-law, Kathy Cira.
Alice was born Oct. 8, 1912, in Edgewood, Iowa, to Fred and Ida (Walters) Fensterman. She graduated from Oneida High School in 1930 and married Joseph Cira on June 30, 1937. Alice was employed by Younkers for 20 years until her retirement. She enjoyed baking, reading and word puzzles.
Alice's determination, strength, courage and love for her family are a lasting example her children and grandchildren will always treasure.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous in Alice's memory.
