Alice Rose Burgess, 74, of Monticello, formerly of Marion, died Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, after a brief illness. Services at 9 a.m. Monday, April 7, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Alice was born July 2, 1939, in Oklahoma, the daughter of Curran and Hazel Williams. She graduated from Springville High School, Springville, Iowa, on May 27, 1958. Alice married Lorenzo Burgess on Aug. 17, 1961, in Anamosa, and was employed by Rockwell Collins until she became a homemaker, when her family began to grow.
Survivors include her daughter, Rosalie (Brad) Hendricks of Washington; son Michael Burgess of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Linda French of Belle Plaine; son, Larry Burgess of Hiawatha; son, Gary (Johnnie) Burgess of Oklahoma; and son, Phillip Burgess of
Marion.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Melisha H., Kyle, Jeremy, Anthony, Adam, Christine and Melisha B.; one great-grandchild,
Aubrey; sisters, Betty (George) of Florida, Evelyn (Tim) Ferguson of Texas, Nancy (Orval) Cooper of Waterloo and Newton
Williams of California; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lorenzo; and her brother, Karl Williams.
Alice enjoyed her retirement, which allowed her to spend time with her family, the opportunity to travel, make new friends and her routine trips to the Casinos.
