Alice M. Berg-Owens, 98, a longtime resident of Cedar Rapids and most recently of Summit Pointe, Marion, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015.
Alice was born Jan. 31, 1916, at Ringsted, Iowa, to Bertha (Ehlers) Rinderknecht and Henry Rinderknecht. She graduated from Shellsburg High School (class of 1933). She married the late Harry E. Berg on June 20, 1943. She later married the late Vernon Owens on Sept. 5, 1998. During World War II, she was employed at Collins Radio and received the coveted E award for superior service. She later worked at Wright Elementary School managing the school kitchen. She was a lifelong member of the Vinton Club.
She is survived by her children, Jeffrey P. (Valissa) Berg and Suzanne A. (John) Dabbert; grandchildren, Brian (Stacey) Berg, Jody (John) VanHove, Lindsey (David) Oosterbaan and Brant Rubin; and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by brothers, Henry and Raymond Rinderknecht; and sisters, Ella Krug, Irene Beatty and Wilma Penny.
Private burial services were held.
