Alice Bartling, 98, of Hiawatha, died Monday, March 28, 2016, at her home in Hiawatha. Funeral services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 11, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Alice was born July 9, 1917, the daughter of Ludvik and Emma (Chalupnik) Peshel, in Tama County. She was married to Richard Bartling on Oct. 19, 1942. He passed away in 1994.
Alice worked as a housekeeper and at Killian's Department Store.
In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, gardening and bird watching.
When asked how she was feeling, she would say, "Feelin' with my fingers," and "Fat and sassy, but mostly sassy." Alice loved spending time with her family and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her five children, Norman Bartling, Russell Bartling, Eileen (Tom) Crone, Marlene (Andy) Stern and Janice (Jerry) Sanchez; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Margaret; and grandson, Sean.
