Alfred A. (Fred) Rogers, 93, born in Frankfurt, Germany, died Nov. 10, 2015, at his home at Montgomery Place Retirement Community. Beloved husband of Muriel Robin Rogers (nee Morris) for 28 years and of the late, Ruth Rogers (nee Lion) for 38 years. Loving father of Jonathan Rogers, Berlin, Germany, Daniel (Marcia) Rogers, Cedar Rapids and Miriam (Steve) Singer, St. Louis. Beloved grandfather of Joshua Rogers, Samuel Rogers (fiancee Julia Krull), Benjamin (Andrea) Rogers, Michael Rogers, Deborah (Sam Kaplan) Singer, Ruth Singer and Rebeccah Singer; and great-grandfather of Woody Rogers. Loving brother of Hilde (the late Dominic) Staniulis, the late Ruth (Jerry) Wise and the late Alice (Ernst) Kaufmann. Beloved by his stepfamily: David (Kathy) Robin, Carol Robin, Jerry (Irene Rosenthal) Robin, Jeremy (Anne) Robin and Mindy Robin.
Fred was an active member of the Cedar Rapids Community for 48 years, serving as president of the Cedar Rapids United Way, as president and longtime board member of Temple Judah and as an active member of Rotary. An engineer, Fred worked at Collins Radio, later Rockwell Collins from 1960 to 1974 in various roles, last as director, test equipment department. Until his retirement, Fred owned and operated an electronics supply company, TEI.
At Montgomery Place, Fred organized and chaired the Monday evening German speaking dinners and chaired the maintenance committee and was an enthusiastic participant in many other activities.
Memorial service at Montgomery Place on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at 1 p.m. KAMII Rabbi Frederick Reeves officiating. Funeral service at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at Temple Judah in Cedar Rapids followed by burial at Eban Israel Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
