Alexandra Jennifer (Darrow) Newlon, 34, of Prairie Village, Kansas, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed unexpectedly due to a pulmonary embolism on Monday, July 28, 2025. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the funeral home with a luncheon to follow. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website tribute page for Alexandra, under “videos,” starting at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
Alexandra was born on February 7, 1991, in Waterloo, Iowa. She was raised by Carla and her stepfather Darrell Long in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School and later graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Linguistics and Speech/Hearing Science. Following graduation, Lexi was a Nanny in Australia before returning to Iowa to work for Rockwell Collins which allowed her to opportunities for both national and international travel. While playing volleyball on a Rockwell Collins team, she met the love of her life, Ryne Newlon. Soon Lexi moved to Kansas City to work at another engineering firm hoping Ryne would join her. He did and they began to build their lives together. Soon after, they adopted their dog Polly who would be the light of their lives and loved by many. She married Ryne Newlon on November 5, 2022, in Kansas City, Missouri. Most recently Alexandra worked as a project manager for Kiewit Corporation.
Survivors include her husband, Ryne Newlon of Prairie Village; her parents, Carla and Darrell Long of Cedar Rapids; her siblings, Mallory and Mason Long, and Jordan Willison; her uncles, Jim, David and Dan Darrow; her maternal grandmother, Carmen Darrow; and their beloved dog, Polly.
She was preceded in death by her son, Gabriel; and her grandfather, Don Darrow.
