ALEXANDER VOSDINGH
Cedar Rapids
Alexander Michael Gavia Vosdingh passed away at home in the afternoon of Aug. 5, 2014, from complications due to lifelong disabilities. Alex was 21. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, with a 3 p.m. parish rosary at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. There will be a luncheon in the church basement following the service on Monday. Burial will be in the Shueyville Cemetery following the luncheon.
Alex was born in Fullerton, Calif., on Oct. 12, 1992, to Mike and Mary (Gavia) Vosdingh. He faced many physical and developmental challenges throughout his life yet proved to be the bravest soul any of his family and friends have ever met. Alex didn't speak but his life spoke volumes to many people. The numerous friends, caregivers and medical professionals who encountered Alex will undoubtedly have a place in their hearts for him forever. Those close to Alex knew that a smile from him made many, many a bad day go away.
Alex truly enjoyed his many years at school with his friends here in Cedar Rapids, in-cluding Grant, Taft, Taylor and Jefferson High School, where he graduated with his younger brother, Austin, this past May. Alex was also captivated with baseball on TV ….. he didn't have a favorite team but always liked catching the Cubs, Cardinals, White Sox or Yankees.
Alex is survived by his parents, Mike and Mary Vosdingh, and his brother, Austin.
He will be missed by his grandparents and his many aunts, uncles, cousins, caregivers and friends from around the country, all of whom will be mourning his loss.
Memorials may be directed to The Arc of East Central Iowa.
