Alexander "Alex" Chappell Jr., 69, of Iowa City, passed away unexpectedly Friday, March 18, 2016, following a difficult battle with Parkinson's disease. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 24, at Gay & Ciha Funeral Service in Iowa City with funeral services beginning at 11 a.m.

Alex was born Oct. 2, 1946, in Elizabeth, N.J., the son of Alexander and Emelda (Neuges) Chappell. He earned his degree from Bernard Baruch College, New York, and resided in the Los Angeles area from the early '70s until 1997 when he moved to Iowa. While in California, he was married to Nancy with whom he had two daughters, Jennifer and Kimberly Chappell. In 1991, he met his current wife, Anne Knight, and together they moved to Iowa in 1997. He had worked about 10 years at the VA Health Care System in Iowa City.
While not working, Alex could be found working on military models. He was an award-winning modeler and took great pride in his work and the small details that went into each recreation. He also shared his love with his boxers, Rosie and Rocky.
Alex's family includes his wife of 24 years, Anne Knight; daughters, Jennifer and Kimberly Chappell of California; brother, Malcolm Chappell of New Jersey; and stepsons, Derek and Johnathan Gunn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wayne Chappell.
