Aldridge, Robert Edward
Robert Edward Aldridge, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died Jan. 27, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center.
Survivors include his children, Edith and Robert Jr.
A Mississippi native, Bob obtained his undergraduate degree at Millsaps College in Jackson and his master's degree at Mississippi State University. He relocated with his family to the Midwest to pursue graduate work in theatre at the University of Wisconsin, earning his Ph.D. in 1979.
From 1973 to 2001, Bob served on the Arts and Humanities faculty at Kirkwood Community College and is remembered by many as the driving force behind Ballantyne Auditorium, which was opened in 1984. Bob was also devoted to his students, being named “Honorary Student” at Kirkwood during 1981-82.
Memorials may be made to the Kirkwood Foundation Performing Arts Scholarship Fund.
