AlDean W. Nelson, 94, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018, at UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospital. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan (Vern) Sandhurst of Omaha, Neb., and Sandra (Bill) Chepa of Hayward, Wis., a son, Bruce (Neila) of Minnesota; a stepdaughter, Debbie (Ron) Burgess of Cedar Rapids; two stepsons, David McKibben of Marion and Richard McKibben of Vinton; six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, DeLane; and two sisters, Gladys and Cleo.
AlDean was born on April 23, 1924, in Newman Grove, Neb., the son of Gust and Mable Anderson Nelson. He married Lois K. McKibben on Jan. 19, 1973, in Cedar Rapids. Lois passed away in 2006.
AlDean farmed for several years in Minnesota and later worked at Farmstead in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes and helping his brother, DeLane, at harvest time in Nebraska. AlDean was a wonderful husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
