Albrecht, Alan E.
Alan E. Albrecht, 56, of Iowa City, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City following a lifelong struggle with cerebral palsy. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 28, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the University of Iowa Children's Hospital.

Alan E. Albrecht was born Sept. 21, 1953, son of Dorothy Wickizer and Kenneth Albrecht. In his younger years Alan attended the University of Iowa Hospital School where he began his lifelong education. At the age of 18, he moved to Clear Lake, then Madrid, only to return to Iowa City years later. Throughout his life Alan expanded his education through reading; books were an important part of his life. For the last several years Alan has lived at Greenwood Manor, where he has treasured the friendships with all who have helped him.
Alan's family includes his parents, Kenneth and Dorothy Albrecht of North Liberty; brother, Craig (Chris) Albrecht of North Liberty; niece, Kate Albrecht and her fiance, David; and nephews, Max Albrecht and Adam Desterhaft.
Alan was preceded in death by his grandparents.
