Albie Marie Behounek, 99, of Tama, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Central Iowa Healthcare in Marshalltown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Chelsea. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. before the Mass at the church.
Albie was born Dec. 28, 1916, in Otter Creek Township, Tama County, Iowa, the daughter of Frank S. and Emma Louise (Kvidera) Hala. She attended country school in Otter Creek Township and then worked for area families in their homes.
On Nov. 25, 1940, she was united in marriage to Edwin G. Behounek at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Dupanda Road in rural Toledo, Iowa. Albie was a farmwife and the couple farmed west of Chelsea. After retirement in 1977, they moved to Tama.
She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, where she was involved in CCW and also the KD Lodge in Vining. Albie enjoyed traveling and going to card parties until Edwin's death. She loved making rugs and crocheting afghans for her family. She also enjoyed flowers and gardening.
Survivors include two daughters, Elaine M. Behounek of Marengo and Monica M. (Paul) Hoherz of Iowa City; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Marla Behounek of Tama and Linda Behounek of Omaha, Neb.; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy (Bob) Jones of Fort Worth, Texas.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Edwin, in 1999; two sons, Robert and Larry Behounek; one daughter, Lucy Bunn; an infant son; two sisters, Agnes Kucera and Anna Svoboda; and one brother, Frank Hala.
Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church for Masses or Sisters of Notre Dame Retirement Fund.
