Nancy M. (Melrose) Albertson

Nancy passed away after a brief illness while surrounded by her family on Jan 3, 2012. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan. 28, at 2:30 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, with a reception to follow at The Kirkwood Room.

Nancy was born Aug. 6, 1936, in Charles City, where she was raised and graduated from high school. She attended Northern Iowa Teachers College (UNI) and was a 1959 graduate of the University of Iowa.

On Sept. 19, 1959, Nancy married Gary Albertson. They lived briefly in Moline, Ill., and Cedar Rapids Iowa, returning to Iowa Citym where they successfully raised their family.

Nancy was a woman of compassion and wit. She inherited an infectious sense of bawdy humor from her mother. One of Nancy's great blessings was the ability to establish lifelong friendships.

Nancy and Gary were fortunate to enjoy their golden years traveling and spending their winters in Marco Island where they also cultivated many everlasting friendships.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Gary; and their children, John (Peggy) of San Diego and Ann (Kyle) Smith and Amy (Chris) Peterson, both of Gilbert, Ariz.; and grandchildren, Katie, Jillian, Jaycie, Lucy, Levi and Owen, all of whom she genuinely adored; her brother, Andy (Diane) Melrose of Charles City; and her sister, Mona of Honolulu.

We will always carry her laughter in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.
