Alberta Lucille Ronnebaum, 89, of Earlville, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Earlville. The family will greet friends from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Earlville, where there will be a 2 p.m. Scripture service. Additional visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, also at the funeral home. Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Earlville.
Alberta was born Jan. 12, 1925, to A.B. and Clara (Thillen) Holtz in Littleport, Iowa. She attended school in Littleport and Xavier in Manchester. She worked for numerous families until her marriage. She married Matthias "Matt" Ronnebaum on Nov. 21, 1944, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Manchester. She and Matt farmed for 29 years before moving into Earlville in 1971.
A person of strong faith, she guided her family with a gentle voice and enduring presence.
Alberta loved baking (especially cherry pie), crocheting afghans and doilies and quilting. She also enjoyed the daily rosary and coffee with her friends.
Alberta is survived by her daughters, Dianne (Bill) Oberbroeckling, Betty (Darrell) Lendt, Karen (David) Mensen, Marilyn (Gary) Althoff and Donna (Dan) Kaiser; a daughter-in-law, Kim (Kyle) Downs; 25 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Wilma Holtz; sister, Marie Wulfekuhle; brother, Albert (Lucille) Holtz; and in-laws, Vera (Leonard) Wulfekuhle.
Alberta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Matt, in 2003; two sons, Leon in 1957, and Robert in 1993; a son-in-law, Larry Reth; a grandson, Stacy Reth; a great-grandson, Jordan Oberbroeckling; siblings, Francis Holtz, Edward (Leta) Holtz and Theresa (Joe) Demeter; father- and mother-in-law, Frank and Mary Ronnebaum; and in-laws, Ernie (Arlene) Ronnebaum and Harold Wulfekuhle.
