Alberta (Hammond) Cray, 92, of Cedar Rapids, went peacefully home on Sunday, July 26, 2015. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 30, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her two sons, David (Diane) Cray of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Gary Cray of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Burton "Bud" Cray; parents, Harry and Elsie Hammond; and all of her siblings, Lucille, Laverna, Evelyn, Elwood, Norman and twin sister, Alice
Alberta Maxine Hammond was born to Harry and Elsie Hammond on Sept. 3, 1922, in Linn County, Iowa. She married Burton J. Cray on Feb. 8, 1942. They were married for 55 years.
Alberta was employed by Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. Alberta was active in PTA and Cubs and Boy Scouts of America. Alberta was a charter member of the Linn County Historical Society, a member of the Cedar Valley Rocks and Mineral Society and the Trinity Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.
Alberta will be missed by her family and her many friends.
Her family wishes to thank Hospice of St. Luke's and the staff of Woodlands at Meth-Wick for their care, kindness and support.
