Albert Richard Wieneke, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Services: 10 a.m. Friday at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the church where friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Al is survived by his wife, Margaret; six children, Judy Wieneke of Cedar Rapids, Joan (Daniel) Albert of Walford, Peggy Wieneke of Cedar Rapids, Ann (Jack) Sauer of Fairfax, Joseph (Mary) Wieneke of Miami, Fla., and Timothy (Deb) of Cedar Rapids; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Kauffman of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Michael; four sisters, Frances Wieneke, Virginia Wieneke, Bertha Wieneke Mallie and Rose Wieneke; and four brothers, Eugene, Robert, John and William Wieneke.
Albert was born July 13, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles Phillip and Otillie Anna Muller Wieneke. He married Margaret Ann Sisco on Nov. 20, 1954, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. He served in the Air Force for eight years. He retired in 1990 as a supervisor from Quaker Oats Co. Al was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus No. 5544 and Fairfax American Legion Pekomy Post 177.
Al lived his life surrounded by his family and always enjoyed family gatherings, playing cards and eating chocolate.
A memorial fund has been established for the St. Jude Building Fund and the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
